Sunbonnet Sue Goes to MAQ
Lottery Block for MAQ 2010

  Rules of participation:

  • Lottery block does not require a specific fabric; use your own

  • Please use cotton quilting fabric for background

  • Maximum 4 entries (blocks) allowed per participant

  • Can only win once but may submit name with each block (i.e., if your
name is called to win one group of blocks, it will be passed over if
    pulled again)

  • Basic pattern will be provided; however you may use your own
    pattern

  • We encourage creativity and fun in personalizing your Sue

  • Type “Sunbonnet Sue” into your favorite search engine to get some
ideas and see what other quilters have done with Sue BUT please
respect copyright issues – there are many free patterns in the public
    domain that you may use

  Instructions:

  • Prewash all your fabrics

  • Background of block - Cut a 14” square, use off-white, cream, beige
but not a white white fabric; meant to be oversized so that the
recipient can trim down blocks to their desired size

  • Sue – anything goes, select fabrics for your own personalized Sue

  • Embellishments – encouraged but must be sewn on, not glued

  • Appliqué – may be hand appliqué or fusible; if fusible, please stitch
around the edges of each piece

  • Sue can face left or right

  • Maximum height of Sue to be 8” to 8 ½”, from top of bonnet to bottom
    of feet

  • Place Sue in the center of the background block (recipients will likely
want to trim blocks smaller 14”)

  • Materials used must be suitable for a wall hanging or a quilt that is to
be used, such as a lap quilt
