Sunbonnet Sue Goes to MAQ
Lottery Block for MAQ 2010
Rules of participation:
-
Lottery block does not require a specific fabric;
use your own
-
Please use cotton quilting fabric for background
-
Maximum 4 entries (blocks) allowed per participant
-
Can only win once but may submit name with each
block (i.e., if your
name is called to win one group of blocks, it will be passed over if
pulled again)
-
Basic pattern will be provided; however you may use
your own
pattern
-
We encourage creativity and fun in personalizing
your Sue
-
Type “Sunbonnet Sue” into your favorite search
engine to get some
ideas and see what other quilters have done with Sue BUT please
respect copyright issues – there are many free patterns in the
public
domain that you may use
Instructions:
-
Prewash all your fabrics
-
Background of block - Cut a 14” square, use
off-white, cream, beige
but not a white white fabric; meant to be oversized so that the
recipient can trim down blocks to their desired size
-
Sue – anything goes, select fabrics for your own
personalized Sue
-
Embellishments – encouraged but must be sewn on, not
glued
-
Appliqué – may be hand appliqué or fusible; if
fusible, please stitch
around the edges of each piece
-
Sue can face left or right
-
Maximum height of Sue to be 8” to 8 ½”, from top of
bonnet to bottom
of feet
-
Place Sue in the center of the background block
(recipients will likely
want to trim blocks smaller 14”)
-
Materials used must be suitable for a wall hanging
or a quilt that is to
be used, such as a lap quilt
