105 Candy Crush - a Jelly Roll Quilt

  • Description: It's time to unfurl one of those jelly rolls you've been hoarding! I know they are wonderful just the way they are, but just think of making your own Candy Crush quilt! Sometimes it's difficult to know how to use those precut beauties. We will talk about strategies for laying out your precious strips and combining them with a background fabric to create your own masterpiece. The block construction is relatively simple and fast. It's all about contrast and color placement. There are several layout options included in the pattern. It's fun to see what emerges from those colorful confections in your stash.
  • You will need one jelly roll, 4 coordinating fat quarters and background fabric. If you aren't ready to part with a jelly roll (or other strip set) you can select fabrics from your stash and create your own strip set!

106 Flower Stitching Pillow

  • Description: Stitching with a pillow in your lap eases the stress on your shoulders and neck. This pillow is 15" long. The background and flowers are wonderfully dyed. There are several background colors available: eggplant (shown here), turquoise, squash blossom, amethyst and black. Each pillow has a zippered back with a "hidden" scissor case.

  • Description: This no-sew Floor Mat workshop is a wonderful way to transfer your quilting ideas and put them on the floor. It started when I kept tripping on the kitchen sink rug - I got so frustrated that I threw the mat away! I decided to make my own. The Floor Mat takes a lot of wear and tear and doesn't roll or slip. Consider this an extension of your quilting life. In addition; I have made table inserts, place mats, and floor runners for hallways. This is actually a two day workshop that I shortened for MAQ. You will be making a 2' x 3' mat in class. I will be doing the prep work on the back of the mat so you can concentrate on designing the side that people will see. The supply list will tell you everything I did, and products that I used so you can duplicate the basic mat over and over again.

  • Description:  This is a variation of a Dresden Plate - but on steroids! It is made using an 18 degree Dresden Plate ruler with a 12-1/2" height. The pointed ends are achieved by slicing off a 30 degree triangle and replacing with a white triangle of the same size. Each quarter unit is faced and appliqued to a background square. 30" x 30". Students must be able to sew an accurate 1/4" seam.

123 Line Drawing with Thread

  • Description: Using FREE line art we will have fun creating a small art piece accented with free motion quilting texture in the background. Participants have the option to thread draw a tree, flowers, lady bug, or butterfly. The focus is the simple elegance of texture and lines created with a thread drawing. The drawing is surrounded by a background texture that completes the story. Each quilter decided what "story" they want to tell with thread. Or they can recreate Abide, a tree planted by a stream, producing fruit in its season.
  • Confident free motion quilters will create a small thread drawing of flowers, a lady bug, tree or butterfly on a whole cloth quilt or a simply pieced two-color quilt block. The size can range from 10-inches to 16 inches square. The project includes FMQ background fill designs like pebbles and swirls, quilt facing for a clean neat finish and optional embellishments with Hotfix Crystals.

  • Description:  If you have been looking for your next piecing challenge and having fun using your scraps then join Pat in this creative workshop, piecing can be done by hand or by a machine. The convex and concave curves are easy to sew. A hexagonal block is formed using just two pattern pieces which are sewn to create six units, thus making up the hexagon. Using your scraps of light, medium and dark fabrics or as few as three colors of fabric you will create an interlocking pattern. This traditional pattern is a true classic that you will want to add to your quilt collection.

126 Broiderie Perse

  • Instructor: Madge Ziegler

  • Description:  This one-day workshop is designed to acquaint you with the traditional style of chintz appliqué, sometimes called Persian embroidery or Broderie Perse. Many of the most beautiful and elegant quilts of the 18th and 19th centuries use this technique. You can also use this technique in your reproduction, art and modern quilts. You will learn and practice a number of hand methods and stitches. You will test different threads. The project is a 12-1/2" block. No machines are used in this class.
  • Techniques covered  Creating Broderie Perse applique by hand with a variety of traditional techniques including needleturn, buttonhole (variety of stitches), and raw edge, using a variety of threads. Quilting will also be discussed.
