A2 Sea Glass

  • Description: Sea Glass is a great example of something else you can do with a Diamond Rectangle unit besides the usual Storm at Sea. Oversized units that are trimmed to perfection will result in a beautiful quilt that is sure to bring back fond memories of searching the beach for treasure. Choose a focus print, pull some coordinating fabrics from your stash, mix everything together with a light and a dark and you're headed for a great looking quilt.

A4 Contemporary Crazy Quilt

  • Instructor: Karen Lee Carter

  • Description:  Learn the techniques for creating a crazy quilt by machine! A fun and simple crazy quilt block construction method will be presented. Students will make a one-block wallhanging or pillow and learn how to use 4 blocks to create a 20" x 20" wallhanging. These are great projects to highlight embroidery designs, appliqués, or vintage textiles. Learn how to enhance your blocks with your machine’s decorative stitches and see a variety of embellishing techniques demonstrated. Coordinate your fabrics and embellishments with a theme (example: butterflies, Christmas, hearts) for a one of a kind treasure!

A8 Pinwheel Pozies - A Layer Cake Quilt

  • Instructor: Clara Daniels
  • Skill Level: Intermediate
  • Description: Layer Cakes, the fabric kind, are lovely confections! So, pick out a favorite fabric collection to grow your own garden of adorable Posies. Each blossom shows off a different fabric to create your own unique patch! This quilt will take on the character of the fabrics you choose to plant in your garden, be it traditional, contemporary or whimsical.
  • Each flower is centered with a pinwheel. You will learn several different tricks to match up the central points. I’ll show you a new, original technique to turn normally wasted fabric into little pinwheel cornerstones. This is a fun project with lots of opportunities to improve your precision piecing skills. You can stop adding posies to your garden whenever you like. But if you want to use nearly every square inch (literally) of the 42 – 10” squares in your layer cake, you will have a 76” x 86” full size quilt. (The quilt shown is slightly larger 86” square and requires 10 additional 10” squares.) Join us to plant your own Pinwheel Posies garden!

A9 Wall MATters

  • Description: No-Sew design class! This no sew Wall Hanging Mat Workshop is a wonderful way to transfer your quilting ideas and put them on the wall--you decide which way you want to hang - vertical or horizontal.
  • During a recent Floor Cloth class it was suggested to take the techniques taught and find another application. Changes were made and I came up with a lightweight version, easy to hang, beautiful floral wall hanging for my living room.
  • You are welcome to use my Accuquilt Go Cutter-electric as I did in the house sample. If you have a die you would like to use, I will have my Accuquilt Go Cutter with me. Think about making a hanging to celebrate holidays, a babies room, whatever inspires you, bring your die with you to class. Or, if you like the floral, find a big floral pattern you love and you are all set!

A14 Cat Faces - Needle Felted Applique

  • Instructor: Debora Konchinsky
  • Skill Level: Beginner
  • Description: In this class, we will all be using Critter Pattern Works’ Cat Faces in Wool pattern to make Felted Applique blocks. I’ll explain how the felting (pushing colored wool fibers into a wool applique sitting on top of a wool background) is different from working with machine applique in cotton. Your applique will become more realistic and more dimensional. You will not need a sewing machine because all details will be hand embroidered. The hand embroidery stitches are basic (easy to learn if you’ve not done hand embroidery before).
  • Techniques Covered:  Needle Felted Applique allows you to mix colors in your hands to create smooth color changes so the animals are more realistic than done in cotton applique, and you can make the applique more 3-D, like a bas-relief.

    A17 Kimono Classic

    • Description: This is a class like no other! After a brief history of Japanese kimonos and explanation of the different types and their functions, students will select a kimono from my 100+ kimono stash to work on. Kimonos can be left untouched by students, can be altered to fit the student’s size or can be modified to create an ensemble (jacket & skirt or jacket & bag), the choice will be up to the student.

    A19 Mock Molas

    • Description:  Are you familiar with the Traditional Molas made by the Kuna people of Central/South America? It is a reverse Applique technique that is very colorful and a True Artform. To make a traditional Mola you need a million tiny stitches and years of practice!
    • This class is my adaptation of the art, using Felt and Flannel and Embroidery stitches. It’s still very colorful, retaining the flavor of the original, but it is so much easier and faster!

    A20 Crimbo the Reindeer

    • Description: I am often asked about the vines I free motion quilt in the borders of my quilts. We will cover the simple technique I have for marking the center vines on various size borders and where I look for ideas on what to quilt along that vines.

    A22 Painted Stitches Landscape

    • Description: This is a one-day class which combines painting with acrylics and free-motion quilting / thread-sketching to complete a 5” x 7” quilted landscape suitable for matting and display in an 8x10 frame. (A double mat is included in the materials fee.)
    • Students will use acrylic paints to create 3 landscape images on cotton fabric, and then choose one to complete in class. After layering up, free-motion stitching will add detail, create texture, and enhance the colors. Painting and sewing continues until the art quilt is completed.

    A25 One Hexagon and 30 Diamonds

    • Description: Sign up now for Pat Yamin’s new class on this ever-popular traditional pattern and learn how to rotary cut those 60 degree diamonds that fit snuggly around their hexagon neighbors.     A26 Big Stitch and Tidy Tie

    • Instructor: Madge Ziegler
    • Skill Level: All Levels
    • Description:  Two techniques for the price of one! Big Stitch aka Utility Quilting is currently the most talked about way to finish your quilt tops. Modern quilters, art quilters and traditional quilters are finding ways that this hand technique can add so much to your quilt. Similar to Sashiko, it’s also fun and faster than traditional hand quilting. In the morning you will work with a small kit for a 7-inch square and practice this hand technique to add graphic quality to your quilts. Then, in the afternoon, learn to Tidy Tie your quilts with a different technique that is perfect for charity quilts or a quick gift. Madge says it's "Tidy" because there are no thread tails on the back or the front of the quilt. Bring a basted piece and you'll get a good start on your own project.
