A01 Stitches to Die For Hand Quilting Style: Lecture/demo/hands-on Would you like to improve your hand quilting stitches? Understanding the mechanics of the quilting stitch, the outside influences that affect your lovely stitches and practice will make serious improvement in your stitches. We will take a look at the products on the market today to make hand quilting a more enjoyable experience. Tips to improve your speed will be shared and bad habits will be corrected. B01 Lovely Labels Style: Lecture/demo/hands-on Every quilt deserves a label! Have you thought of planning the label when you start the quilt? What items should be included on the label will be discussed with many ideas being demonstrated. Each student will prepare multiple labels of his/her own choosing. No additional fees. Class Photo. Supply List. CLASS FULL C01 Curves and Piping, Oh My! Style: Traditional Putting a tiny piping next to the binding is a really neat touch! Let’s take it one step further and put the tiny piping on the edge of curved lines. Now that sounds like a plan! You’ll work with the Groovin’ Piping Tool and make some really terrific tiny piping. Then you’ll add it to curved edges within a block. You’ll put 9 blocks together and have a really great design. And the really cool thing is there is no curved piecing!!!! Finished size: 29" x 29". No additional fees. Class Photo. Supply List. C02 State Watercolor Quilt Style: Pieced Show your state pride and make a quilt that says “Maryland” or “Pennsylvania” or your favorite state. Using the ‘quick watercolor’ technique, mark the state outline onto a piece of 2” gridded fusible web foundation, place a wide variety of conversation print squares inside the state outline, then fill in the background of water and surrounding states with very light-colored squares. Fusing your squares to the web and easy straight stitching will produce your completed top. Add borders as desired. Each quilt will be unique. States available: Arizona, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. Finished size: wall hanging depends on pattern selected. This quilt will give you the chance to re-visit your stash and practice two basic units of the quilt maker's repertoire. We will thoroughly explore the Flying Goose unit and the “Hourglass” unit. The “geese” will be randomly scrappy and continuity will be provided by the “Hourglass” units. The class will be full of tips, tools, and techniques. C04 Grandma's Treasures Style: Pieced with appliquéd embellishments Save family memories, buttons, lace fragments, trims and hankies to create a very special quilt remembering our Grandmothers, Aunts and Mothers. Choose from two basket blocks to form the center of this wall hanging. Each quilter can adapt the number of blocks for her own project. Learn how to include heirloom or purchased treasures in this charming quilt. Several samples will be available for inspiration. Start your “treasure hunt” now! Yard sales, antique shops, button jars, trunks, attics and drawers all hold the keys to making your quilt unique! Basket Blocks in sample are 8” finished. Style: Contemporary pieced The most exciting kaleidoscope pattern yet! Work with colorful octagons, add kaleido-corners to make square blocks, and achieve an unbroken swath of intense abstract design, all from one (unrecognizable) large-scale print. No additional fees. Class Photo. Supply List. CLASS FULL C06 Tokyo Fans Style: Asian contemporary Can’t you just see fan blades made from kimono fabric? That was Gyleen's first thought when she found a collection of antique 1930’s blocks. Putting blocks in a strippy setting is super simple yet so elegant. This fan block is very adaptable, so why not try hand-dyes, civil war and retro fabric collections or even batiks. Learn to do this all by machine to include machine blanket stitch or zigzag! C07 Stained Glass Garden Friends Style: Appliqué Participants will make the Garden Friends panel (14" x 28") or one or two smaller versions (12" x 14"). Choose your colors and fabrics and capture the beauty of stained glass with this quick and easy project. Fabric fusing, purchased bias tape (no need to make your own!), full size pattern, and a double needle machine technique that applies bias and quilts in one step all simplify the project. Pattern fee: $6.00. Class Photo. Supply List. C08 Stipple Basics Style: Technique/Sampler This class focuses on the home sewing machine and the process of stippling within a quilted piece. We will talk about when stippling should be used, what is its purpose, and learn twelve designs for fillers. CLASS FULL C09 The Guiding Star Style: Pieced Two versions of the same block – one traditional inspired from an 1870’s antique quilt made by Aunt Helen Gardner of Ohio or get a head start on a holiday or two color scrap quilt using the same block but with a twist. CLASS CANCELLED C10 Full Moon Owls Style: Appliqué, pieced Linda promises that you will leave her classroom with confidence, creativity and loving appliqué, especially after learning her glue-stick freezer paper method of stitching these 2 “hoots” together under the full moon. C11 Ocean Waves Style: Traditional This is an exercise in quick cutting and quick piecing, although it can be pieced by hand. This is a wonderful project to use up a lot of your scrap fabric. Choose at least 2 colors for a scheme and use many different fabrics. The class teaches the importance of recognizing values and finding the right place for them. Finished size: varies. No additional fees. Class Photo. Supply List. C12 Christmas Tree Skirt Style: Strip piecing The tree skirt is made from wedges cut out of multiple strip sets. Each strip set is made from twelve different Christmas fabrics. Good cutting, pressing and sewing techniques are discussed to achieve the straight seams required for wedges to piece well. This is a great project to use lots of the beautiful holiday fabrics. The resulting tree skirt is bright and colorful. The tree skirt makes a great gift or a special family heirloom. C13 Seeing Stars Style: Pieced Learn a little bit of history while making four different stars – the Barbara Fritchie star, Braced star, Tippecanoe and Tyler, too, and Aunt Eliza’s star. After you have pieced each star, you can put them together to make a table runner or a wall hanging. Sue has also made a queen size quilt using her favorite star. What will be your favorite? Finished size: wall hanging. Pattern fee: $5.00. Class Photo. Supply List. C14 Kiera's Quilt Style: Pieced Use fat quarters or scraps to begin this quilt in a relaxing full day class. Begin a throw or long twin size. Fun and fast! Work with lots of prints of the same value to show off your favorite fabrics. Perfect for large-scale prints--how about all Orientals, batiks or pastel floral fabrics? Flannels work well, too. Come with your pieces cut or cut in class. If you can sew a consistent ¼” seam allowance, these blocks go together in a flash! Finished size: Long twin size (62" x 100") or throw (40"x 59"). Pattern fee: $8.50. CLASS FULL C15 Little Lone Star Style: Pieced Students will use QuiltSmart interfacing to create a small Lone Star quilt top. This small quilt goes together quickly and easily and contains no bias edges or set in seams. Linda will also share some quilting ideas for your wall hanging. Finished size: 25" square. Kite fee: $5.00 which includes QuiltSmart interfacing for one complete star, one page containing quilting designs for completed project to mix and match and a written set of instructions. Class Photo. Supply List. C99 Studio Style: Do your own thing The studio class is designed for the quilter who wants time to “do her/his own thing”. You will bring your own project(s). Patsy will be there to assist with hints, tips, and techniques when you need a helping hand. No additional fees. This class is also taught on Saturday as class E99 and Sunday as class I99. No Class Photo. Supply List. D01 Chocolate Sorbet Style: Stack 'n Whack variation This impressive quilt looks much more complicated to piece than it really is. Be ready for the compliments and practice saying “Oh, it wasn’t that hard to do” when folks ask you . Using a special cutting technique, students will stack their fabrics, cut them out all at once, and then shuffle them around. Then it is onto the sewing! The real beauty of this quilt is the lack of stress involved with making perfect star and flying geese points. Come join us for a great quilt experience! Finished size: 76" square. CLASS FULL D02 Recipe for Success Style: Traditional with Modern Quilting Techniques Surround one beautiful appliqué block, with graphic, pieced blocks to create a stunning central medallion quilt. Friday will focus on appliqué. Create samples of corded, and skinny stems, layered flowers, shaded leaves, sharp points, reverse appliqué, stuffed berries, dogtooth borders. Written instructions, diagrams, and hands-on experience will be provided for each technique. Saturday will address improving piecing skills. Students will select a block for their skill level and learn to understand the individual steps that contribute to and detract from accuracy; analyze blocks in progress to identify what’s working, what’s not; and develop the skills to create precise blocks. D03 Crow Hill Style: Stencil, pieced, appliqué Having designed an alphabet fabric collection, “A’s, Bes’s & Dandelion Seeds”, Jackie wanted to create a wall hanging that included the alphabet but not as a border. The result was “Crow Hill”. The stenciled landscape section is done as three pieces allowing the project to be sewn together in rows. A stenciled alphabet, and traditional and original blocks which are pieced and appliquéd complete the hanging. This project is easily constructed and an opportunity to use your stash. A background fabric kit for stenciling the letter strips will be available for purchase (in addition to the materials fee) or bring your own fabric.
