J02 Fabric Books CANCELLED

Style: Fabric book
Instructor: Karen Fiedler
Method: Machine
Sunday morning
Skill level: Beginner

Learn the techniques involved in making a fabric book, using muslin for the inside pages and a printed fabric for the outside cover. The book will have 12 inside pages measuring six inches square and a slightly larger cover. All pages will be supported by thin, flat quilt batting. Our focus will be to learn how to construct the book and understand the measurements so you can customize future books.
Your imagination will be spinning – think of children’s books (ABC’s, animals, colors); collecting good wishes at a shower, birthday or other celebration; a special satin-and-lace cover for a wedding album; a few small appliqué pieces that you wanted to try; fabrics that show off your vacation photos; a record of baby’s first year; or a very special journal for yourself. The cover, and even the inside pages, beg to be embellished.
The book construction technique is adapted from Fabric Art Journals; Making, Sewing, and Embellishing Journals from Cloth and Fibers, by Pam Sussman.

A Fall leaf piece and a Sunbonnet Sue miniature piece will be covered during the workshop. Students will sew at his/her own pace.
