A01 Beginning Paper Piecing FULL Style: Paper piecing Starting with the simplest block in this quilt, learn the basics of paper piecing. Once this is mastered, try two additional blocks that are just a bit more challenging. Several different materials will be used for the practice blocks. This is a good skill to have and is easiest to learn in an classroom setting. |

A02 Appliqué the Tissue Paper Way Style: Technique An intricate appliqué can be completed as a unit on top of a piece of tissue paper; the tissue paper is then removed allowing the designer the freedom to audition the appliqué to its best advantage for a cohesive composition. Needle-turn appliqué with the invisible appliqué stitch is the sewing method that will be demonstrated. The weight of the tissue paper when removed does not loosen the appliqué stitches. For this class each student will work on an intricate appliqué design of their own choosing. This is a technique class and because each person stitches at their own rate the project should not be expected to be finished during class. This technique was first demonstrated by Frances Calhoun and is being taught with her permission. |

B01 Lady in the White House FULL Style: Traditional
pieced This is from a quilt
in Karen’s collection that she used to design a pattern called Lady

in a Nancy Page column. Approx. size - 64” x 76”. Pattern
fee: $8.00. |
||
|
B02 Perfect Binding Style: Technique After being disappointed with binding that was too loose or too tight, too skinny or too wide, Karen developed a fail-proof “test quilt” method for applying binding. Karen will provide small qwuilt sandwiches and binding strips for class. After this class, you will never cut your binding strips until the quilting is completed, and you will have the confidence to tackle binding for any quilt you make, ever! Note: Students can work by hand or use a sewing machine. The techniques are the same for either sewing method. Kit fee: $3.00. |

B05 Five Lives of Reverse Appliqué Style: Technique Few quilters know
and understand the benefits of reverse appliqué. Furthermore, few
pattern designers and quilting book authors offer this method as a way
to execute their pattern designs, when in fact; it would be much easier
to accomplish by reverse appliqué. Mary has identified the five
most frequent times that reverse appliqué would be the easiest
choice. Examples of each of these five situations will be displayed and
a demo will be given on how to prepare and stitch a project using reverse
appliqué. For this class we will be using reverse appliqué
to put a face on a Halloween Pumpkin. |
