It's time for one of my favorite events of the year: MAQ! I hope are as excited as I am when you see our schedule. This year's Board has studied your evaluations carefully and has tried to respond to your requests. MAQ 2008 includes more classes and covers more techniques than ever--from piecing, handwork, and appliqué to first-time offereings such as crochet and knitting. There are classes for both machine and hand quilters, and we've included some new instructors as well as your returning favorites. As in the past, there are classes for all skill levels. Whether you're brand-new to quilting or an experienced quilter, you're sure to find something to pique your interest.
If you’ve received this information as a mailed brochure, you need to complete the registration form and mail it with your check to the indicated address. If you’re reading this information on the MAQ Website, you need to print out the registration form, fill it out completely, and mail it with your check to the indicated address. If you supply an email address, we'll send your class confirmations and supply lists via email. If you'd prefer (or if you do not have email), you can choose to received your class confirmations and supply lists via postal mail. If that is your preference, include a self-addressed 58 cent stamped #10 business envelope.
We made a few changes to the format of the weekend. We have the traditional half-day, full-day, and two-day classes, but there is also a new day-and-a-half format.
Once again, we have planned special programs for you both evenings. Friday night, we will have a speaker from the Lancaster Quilt & Textile Museum. The Saturday night Show-and-Tell will return this year, so be sure to bring projects you've completed at MAQ in the past. Instead of teachers previewing their upcoming classes on Saturday night, we will compile notebooks of 2009 class "advertisements" that will be available for browsing throughout the weekend. This will give you plenty of time to peruse their ideas and indicate which ones you might be interested in taking next year.
Housing arrangements have also changed a bit this year. We have access to the new dormitories built on campus this past year as well as some of the accommodations we've used in the past. We listened to your feedback and will have more porters available to help you move to and from the dorms and classrooms, and they will be wearing shirts that will make them easily identifiable.
The Lottery Block returns again this year. This year, the theme will be an Amish block to tie into our Friday night speaker's program. If you'd like to participate, please indicate your interest on the Registration form and include the appropriate payment. For every block you enter, you get one chance to win blocks that you can use to make a unique quilt. You may purchase as many Lottery Block kits as you'd like. For each kit purchased, you will be sent fabric and instructions for making block(s).
Finally, MAQ is an organization run solely by volunteers. Each Board serves two years, and 2008 is the first year for this Board's term. However, it's never too early to start thinking about the next Board. If your group is interested in serving for the next term, now's the time to volunteer! That way, you'll have a year to "shadow" the current Board. Contact me or any other Board member if your group is interested.
I'm excited about the fabulous weekend we have planned for you. Book those babysitters, put in your vacation request from work, clear the calendar, and plan to join us for an exciting, relaxing, and fun weekend in July. Happy Quilting!
